INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

5 GCSE's at Grade C or above or at least a Merit Award on a GNVQ Intermediate Course.

COURSE CONTENT:

The course comprises 6 units of study over 2 years.

COMPULSORY UNITS
You must complete ALL the following units:
Unit 1 Presenting Information
Unit 2 ICT Serving Organisations
Unit 3 Spreadsheet Design

OPTIONAL UNITS
You must complete an additional 3 units. Students may pick study units that may include -
Unit 4 Systems Analysis and Configuration
Unit 5 Systems Analysis - external assessment
Unit 6 Database Design
Unit 7 Programming
Unit 8 Communication and Networks
Unit 9 Multimedia
Unit 10 Graphics
Unit 12 The Internet: Systems and Services - external assessment
Unit 13 Managing and Developing Web Sites
Unit 19 Impact of Computers on Society and the Environment - external assessment

ASSESSMENT
Of the 6 units studied at least one unit is externally assessed with an exam and pre-release work to be completed before the exam and submitted with the exam papers. Apart from the units indicated above, the rest are assessed by portfolio, marked by your teacher.

ADVANCED SUBSIDIARY (AS) VCE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
The course comprises 3 units of study over 1 year.

STUDY UNITS
You must complete ALL the following units.
Unit 1 Presenting Information
Unit 2 ICT Serving Organisations
Unit 3 Spreadsheet Design

ASSESSMENT
Of the 3 units studied one unit (Presenting Information) is externally assessed with an exam and pre-release work to be completed before the exam and submitted with the exam papers; the rest are assessed by portfolio, marked by your teacher.

KEY SKILLS
These courses will also enable you to develop your key skills in the following areas:
Communication, Application of number, Problem solving, Working with others, Information Technology and Improving own learning and performance.

COMMENT:

AVCE courses are equivalent to GCE A Level courses and are graded on an A to E scale. The vocational award enables students to apply learning in a practical and realistic way and take an active part in finding solutions independently. The award teaches skills that can be used at home, in industry and commerce. These skills are in great demand and are recognised by employers, universities and colleges as being of great value.
